As a part of the KNOW series, Know the Creeds and Councils is designed not only for for personal study or classroom use but also for small groups and Sunday school classes wanting to more deeply understand the foundations of the faith.   Dr. Justin S. Holcomb’s Know the Creeds and Councils came across my radar while I was teaching women’s ministry at a local Bible college. I saw this book, and the next one I plan to read by him, Know the Heretics, in an academic catalog. I snagged them at a deep discount and promptly stuck them on my “to read” shelf.

In every generation, the Christian church must interpret and restate its bedrock beliefs, answering the challenges and concerns of the day. This accessible overview walks readers through centuries of creeds, councils, catechisms, and confessions—not with a dry focus on dates and places, but with an emphasis on the living tradition of Christian belief and why it matters for our lives today. A companion to the book Know the Creeds and Councils, Know the Creeds and Councils Video Study features Episcopal priest, professor of theology, and author Justin Holcomb leading viewers through centuries of creeds, councils, catechisms, and confessions. Holcomb presents not with a dry focus on dates and places, but with an emphasis on the.

The Zondervan Biblical and Theological Lectures series provides a unique audio learning experience. Unlike a traditional audiobook's direct narration of a book's text, Know the Creeds and Councils: Audio Lectures includes high-quality live recordings of college-level lectures that cover the important points from each subject as well as relevant material from other sources. Know the Creeds and Councils by Justin S. Holcomb ISBN Zondervan Reviewed by Clint Walker I love the KNOW series from Zondervan. It is easily read, and yet each book in the series packs in some great information about both Church History and Christian doctrine.

Know the Creeds and Councils Taught by Justin Holcomb This course will introduce you to the church’s most important statements of faith over the centuries. You should read this book if you want a better understanding of the early creeds and councils of the Christian church.

The book is a great history lesson with explanation of the significance of each element covered. The first half-to-2/3rds of the book is quite good, earning 5 stars from me.

There is less-important material towards the end/5(51). A CourseGuide for Know the Creeds and Councils, when used with the accompanying book and video lectures, provides everything you need to learn on your own and go deeper in understanding topics related to the Bible, theology, ministry, and more.

Holcomb wrote Know the Creeds and Councils for the benefit of a popular audience. The chapters are short. Each chapter contains four sections: brief historical background, content summary, relevance for today, and discussion questions for whichever creed, council, confession, or catechism it describes.

The book includes 13 chapters. A companion to the book Know the Creeds and Councils, Know the Creeds and Councils Video Study features Episcopal priest, professor of theology, and author Justin Holcomb leading viewers through centuries of creeds, councils, catechisms, and confessions.

Holcomb presents not with a dry focus on dates and places, but with an emphasis on the living tradition of Christian belief and why it matters for Brand: Zondervan.

The book I read was thick, scholarly, and in my opinion, poorly organized. This one, on the other hand, was reader-friendly, well-organized, and written primarily to be UNDERSTOOD.
